I've recently come to a consensus with myself the ways dubs, and Anime, should be done in General. They should be done like American movies in way, but let me explain before you come to my house and kill me.

The first thing you should try to think of anime is that the Japanese version should be considered "The Director's Cut", as in it was originally meant by the Anime Company. The original Japanese Anime, should be the basis on all other series are based on, because it is what the company originally planned for its product. Whether edits are made or not, the Dubbing company in America, should treat the Japanese version the best, with uncut music, scenes, and accurate subtitles. They don't' have to make subtitled tapes, just make it a standard option on DVD'S, or subbed only DVD'S (not preferred, but would be taken by some in an instant)

Now, although some people think that there shouldn't be anything done to the Japanese version, there are dub fans out there (myself included) and we want our dubs, mainly because we're too lazy to learn Japanese. Now, the UNCUT version of the Dub, should be treated like a major release on HBO, Showtime, etc, but at least released on Video/DVD, if it's deemed unsuitable for television, but it should be try to be put on Television, as much as possible. But in my opinion, the main point of an Anime Company is to gain money, and they really don't do it through TV, they do it through, their Video/DVD'S, etc., so they should make a quality product for it.

Now, if the company has to make a Cut Dub for Television, fans should accept it, but realize it there should be an Uncut Series on Video/DVD. Fans have to realize that the Cut dub would be the same as Terminator 2 on a family owned Network: in other words, not very true to the original. Granted, some uncut Dubs are less than stellar(Dbz for example) but what people have to realize is that, no matter how cut Tenchi is on Cartoon Network, the original is available on tape/DVD. The same goes with shows like Escaflowne, and others. It may be butchered on Tv, but all in all, you should be happy that they dubbed it (hopefully uncut), or brought a subtitled version to America.
